Music has been a lifelong source of joy and enrichment for me. As a child, I began lessons in piano, guitar and drums, and sang lead in a teenage rock band, before picking up the flute at age 16. My formal flute studies began with private classical training, but I quickly realized that I wanted to improvise and learn about the genres of jazz and world music. After majoring in music at a community college, I attended Berklee College of Music for two years and later transitioned to New England Conservatory of Music, with continuing education studies in jazz improvisation, theory, and classical flute. I am a guitarist, composer and teacher living in Los Angeles. I am currently a Masters student at Musicians Institute and work there as a faculty member. I have given hundreds of live performances, but, I really enjoy working in a studio environment and have played on dozens of recording projects. I use a wide variety of music in my lessons and customize the exact curriculum based on each student's goals, learning style, requests, and what I determine will be the right mix to maximize their progress and allow them to enjoy their practice time and the lessons. I also provide mp3 background tracks for most of the songs used in the lesson. I tend to favor Essential Elements for students (including adults) when they are first learning to play their instrument, but I also teach from the other band method books to accommodate what each student is using in their respective band class. I'm a passionate and dedicated teacher who loves working with students of all ages and levels. I completed my Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Southern California in 2009, and since then I have been an active teacher and performer all over Southern California. I have performed at many different venues across the Los Angeles area, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl, and have appeared with many different groups including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida.
