Whenever I give lessons, I set a teaching plan based on individual circumstances. I use the same materials the student uses in their school. I add material as I see fit as we go along, I have found it is more effective than trying to fit everybody into the same box. I love seeing students enjoy their music lessons! I typically begin the lesson asking the student how their practice went for them, allowing them to communicate their successes and struggles from the previous week's practice. We then set some attainable goals for the lesson, and the student then shows off whatever they worked on that week. I've found that in an effective lesson, the student spends 50% of the lesson or more actually playing the instrument, rather than spending the whole time listening to instruction. Read More

I encourage my students to practice and do the homework, but what is truly important also is that they enjoy and feel the love for learning music.
