For beguiners I like to start the with Essential Elements for Strings , a comprehensive string method by Michael Allen, Robert Gillespie Pamela Tellejohn , Afterthat book I combine Suzuki books 1, 2, 3 Studios Wolfarht,some Russian methods,(I have learned with most of them) Some scales books Grigorian, etc. for more advanced student i use to teache with Mazas, Kreutzer, Fiorillo, Rode, Dont, studios, and I combine the lessons focused in the princeipal golas for right or left hands.I like to start with left hands, focused in the fingrs positions and distances between each and other, entonation,at first in pizzicatto style, and then the bowl and the right hand. I encourage my students to practice and do the homework, but what is truly important also is that they enjoy and feel the love for learning music. When I left Berklee to study with John Mehegan I played in local blues bands but didn't work much. I heard that playing in so called society bands payed much better and the work was mor frequent. I did that for years. I played with an Elvis impersonator and got tons of work. The most lucrative thing was composing and writing radio and TV commercials for local banks and businesses, I even had a chance to arrange a jingle for Sunkist orange soda, as you probably know the Beach Boys got the job.
