I differentiate my teaching approach to allow every student the chance to learn effectively and perform their best musically. I aim to promote confidence, integrity, and enthusiasm in the classroom. I do this by communicating with my students about their wants, needs, and struggles. My goal is not only to teach my students how to play music well, but to get them to truly enjoy spending time with their instrument. Read More

Most schools use the Hal Leonard Essential Elements and I tend to focus on this method as supplemental instruction but other methods are fine as well especially if the student is already working through a particular method book. For young students I encourage a mix of formal music instruction with music the student enjoys. Nothing unlocks a love of learning like discovering how your favorite music works! Adult students are welcome to tailor their lessons to their musical goals whether that's learning Bach or Breaking Benjamin! Read More

My primary instrument is the human voice. A complicated yet versatile instrument that is unique in every person, and as such should be treated with specific pedagogical methods that best suit a student's age, skill level, and learning style. I still believe in a balance of things, even in serious competition preparation (which is more difficult than just the music practicing). I try to follow any class materials first, unless the student doesn't participate in one (like at a school); and then I (usually) recommend Essential Elements to start with. I don't want to merely be the entertainment once a week, I want to help students do their own homework to achieve success. Read More

We will then immediately dive into making noise, chords, warm up practices and small challenge games on the instrument! 3rd sessions we will begin to focus on the student's interest in genre styles and selected pieces of music.
