Hello! Tom here, lifelong musician and educator. I make music with drums (drum set, hand percussion), guitars (electric and acoustic), and electronic instruments (synthesizers, MIDI keyboards, DJ turntables). My ultimate goal is for all my students to find joy in learning, studying, and playing music. Therefore, I often tried to make my lessons engaging and enjoyable. I am not strict in one specific style. I try to be malleable in my approach as I get to know the habits and abilities of each individual. I've had students for whom I thought it best to be more rigid and repetitive drill based, while others seem to benefit from a more passive guru. It's a spectrum. Always, though, I try to control the pace of the session, to speak thoughtfully, honestly, and constructively whilst always maintaining the utmost respect for the struggles that a student is facing. I offer the Suzuki method of teaching for all beginners and pair it with Essentials for Strings to engage music theory into the lessons. As the students progress there are more books to choose and duets to practice Chamber Music and more advanced techniques. For Beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Method, and essentials for Strings. After they have graduated and begin reading and understanding the basic concepts of music , and reading we begin to play duets and test of types of music. Read More

I begin with the fundamentals of music theory that you will need to begin playing your instrument, and then I like to get straight into learning songs as quickly as possible. The student may choose what songs to learn (recommended) or I can make suggestions. You will learn a range of skills including tuning, instrument care, song struture, chords, soloing, and MUCH MORE. My goal is for you not just to learn to play certain notes or chords, but also understand why that note or chord fits where it does. Read More
