As I was a band teacher, I can teach beginning clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, percussion, ukulele, and guitar. Global community music has always been an interest and I am pleased to offer frame drum lessons as well. Being a general music teacher and having worked with parents and caregivers with their young children, I also teach songs and movement activities that will enhance their child’s learning in motor, cognitive, and music skills. My methods vary depending on skill level, but with every student I begin by examining their understanding of theory as I believe theory is the basis of all music. I then like to get an understanding of what their main goals are, whether that be learning to play music for friends and family all the way up to making a career out of it. My experience in audio engineering, management, and producing also allows me to help students plan for a solid future career in whatever field suits them. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I usually mix all lessons with a variety of a musical exercise, an etude, and then a larger solo piece. Read More

Scientifically speaking, our brains are trained to be "goal achievers". Thus, I always ask my students what three goals we need to work on before my lesson begins. Therefore, I give my students a very friendly, safe, and open-minded environment to express their emotion. Read More

My teaching style can best be described as adaptable. Every student can learn and every student is different. Some students need structure, some need to be encouraged and some just need someone to help them polish their skills. Whatever the case may be, it is my job to meet the student where they are and provide support that balances what they need and their personal goals. In that balance is the key to finding long term enjoyment, success, and continued musical exploration. Read More
