For beginners, I often keep my approach lax and hope to not overwhelm them, as Ive seen many a beginner quit due to lack of confidence and understanding. Every student requires a different approach not just due to their skill level but also their personality. Certain students dont take criticism well, while others may only improve through it. I like to find songs that students really care about, because then they will be more interested in learning them. My teaching style is very flexible in that all students are different, and learn in different ways. Ive taught really young kids and Ive also taught seniors. I believe in cultivating music at a high level from the very start emphasizing that one must listen in order to play. I encourage activities that foster focus and attention to detail. The more deeply one listens ,the richer the musical experience.. I tap into the concept of octave theory utilizing solfege as well as linear concepts on single strings..
