For me the most important thing in lessons is to get students to play. After all, that's why they're here! From your very first lesson, I will have you playing simple parts in duet with me, so you get to make music from day one! I combine these simple exercises with learning notes and technique, so you'll always have a variety of skills to work on. For all students, I focus on helping them to hear their own mistakes, figure out what is wrong, and know how to fix it. Read More

My teaching experience started with Olivet Boys and Girls club in college. There, I started teaching a choral group, glee club, private piano lessons, and group piano lessons. I took private lessons from the age of 7 years old for about 13 years, and continue to practice and play daily (it's important to keep challenging yourself). Read More

I am an energetic and encouraging instructor who loves seeing students get excited about learning new things. I have B.M. in Acoustic Composition and Electronic Music, 10 years of playing/performing French horn, 5 rigorous years of piano instruction and performance, and a whole lifetime of singing. I wear a lot of hats in my professional life that range from composer to ethnomusicologist (specializing in UK identities and politics in music) to performer (formerly primarily horn but now primarily piano and voice) to music administrator to teacher. I break down the overall goal to a small step that is doable for the student. I am nice and patient with students, meanwhile, I insist on they accomplishing my instruction. It is fine if it takes several tries, but most importantly is that they had to try. Practicing is a way to learn from the mistake and how to avoid it. Practicing also teaches us how to be patient and doing it efficiently leading to success. Read More
