Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

The most important thing for me to note is that I teach intermediate and advanced jazz saxophone as well as beginning and intermediate clarinet, flute and saxophone. After coming to a certain ability level, I will refer classical students to another teacher. I am a candidate for the degree Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Performance which I am planning to complete in December of 2014. I am a certified, experienced, passionate educator who loves teaching students of all ages. I have a Master of Music in Saxophone performance from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Music Education from The Ohio State University. I have taught as a middle and high school band director/music teacher all over the world. My specialty is woodwinds in particular flute, clarinet and saxophone. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 3 years. Lessons and master class performances throughout the nation with such artists as Ian Clarke, Jim Walker, Leone Buyse and more have given me a range of professional viewpoints and inspired my teaching and performance. In lessons, I concentrate on fundamentals (breathing, tone, technique, tonguing, etc), as these are often shorted in the school classroom and will further enable the student long-term. I strive to make abstract concepts concrete by using actions and icons, especially for younger students. As a flute player, where would we be without the teachings of Trevor Wye, Marcel Moyse, Paul Taffanel and Philippe Gaubert? Of course, I will start by determining where they are at, a test, so to say. For the beginners, I like to start with the Trevor Wye beginners books. As they grow more advanced, we will look at separate books such as the 24 melodic studies by Moyse and intermediate books that are also by Wye. Read More
