I have been an active music teacher now for over 3 years. However, teaching is not the only thing I do. I am constantly working on music of all styles with all walks of life. I am currently producing dozens of artists from all around the country out of my home studio. I am also in several gigging bands. Playing live shows is the ultimate reward of being a musician and I like to do it as much as possible. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For my more advanced students, I work with them on musical concepts to develop strong practice habits and scheduling. Read More

I always like to have the students first develop a strong interest in music right away - so I like to start off with something that specifically interest them - song, piece....ect. Once the student is able to feel the joy from playing, it makes the learning process feel much less cumbersome and much more enjoyment based. From here, I like to move at the appropriate pace of the student, incorporating technique, theory, performance, and improvisation into every lesson. Read More

I believe in tailoring my lesson plans to individual students. I like to target a students musical goals and help them achieve them whether it be through method books or passing down techniques. I've been fortunate enough to have been around many incredible educators throughout the years and try to take the methods they've showed me and apply it to my own teaching style. For drum students I teach out of various books including Syncopation, Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer, Stick Control and Buddy Rich's Modern Interpretation of Snare Drum Rudiments. Being able to read music well allows you to pursue any type of written music you want to learn. Daily experimentation on your instrument can teach you more about the instrument and yourself than any book or teacher. These are the three main aspects that I focus in my own development (I'm still learning too!). For my piano students, I encourage them to search out opportunities to perform the music they work on every week. Read More
