I then received my Masters of Arts in Music Education along with New York state certification for grades Pre-K through 12th grade. The year I graduated with my masters I was hired to work for the New York city Department of Education teaching general music and Band to grades Pre-K through eighth grade. For beginner students, I like to use the Faber books or the Thompson method for piano. I also encourage students of all ages to share what they enjoy listening to and incorporate songs they enjoy as early as possible. As students progress I get into more in depth concepts in music theory and improvisation, to provide a foundation in the language of contemporary music. Teaching, for me, began when I was in high school; I taught summer drumset lessons at McQuaid Jesuit and taught Karate at Martial Arts America. This desire to teach was incorporated with my love of music...leading me to pursue a degree in Music Education. I began performing and competing in fourth grade, which continued into my college years. In my third year of undergraduate work, these elements of music led me as well as three of my percussion buddies to performances and clinics (that we taught) at the New York State School Music Association and the New York State Band Director's Association conventions.
