My teaching style can be summed up in one word: POSITIVITY! I have found encouragement and celebrating even the smallest of accomplishments is far more effective than a heavy handed approach ala whiplash. That is the way to spur on a students desire to stick with it and progress and produces a hunger to learn more. It is a combination of fun and skill and whatever inspires my students to find their own voice and style while learning about MUSIC not just an instrument. Read More

Everybody develops at their own pace. This makes the journaling process even more important. I ask to keep track ofwhat you worked on, how it felt, how much time you spent on each subject, questions or interests it brought up, and goals you wish to strive for. This is a routine that I've found very helpfull for musicians of all ages and expeience levels. There are few things more satisfying than acheiving a goal you've reached and being recognized for it, this is a goal that I strive to complete with each and every student. Read More

I like the aphorism by British guitarist and educator Robert Fripp "We begin where we are". It means to me that at any given point we are all beginners. So if we come with an open mind to explore and learn something new, perhaps what it could be challenging might become easier if we apply the right mind set. So if we are learning a scale...perhaps we begin with a note at the time, then add a second and third, so on, until we have all eight notes or sixteen. - Slow down: If you want to play fast you gotta be able to play it slowly with accuracy and precision.
