My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 15 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. For my beginner students, who are younger, I start off with the Faber series in the Primer levels. After progressing through the first few levels of the series, I then start to introduce solo repertoire depending on the interests of the student. For my older students, we also go through the Faber Adult Piano Adventures book, where we learn the basics of piano along with some fun pieces. I also heavily believe in the integration of different subjects of learning in order to enhance the application of knowledge. For instance, learning about counterpoint is the perfect opportunity to include music history to track trends and usage of counterpoint and encourage practical application in the form of composition (also creating the opportunity to learn a little about orchestration).
