I have been teaching students for over 10 years. In addition to piano, guitar, violin, and double bass private lessons, I have also taught group lessons. I taught a group piano lab for 5th graders. I taught group guitar lessons to camp students. For beginning students I always begin with a methods book, I believe that good fundamentals are what makes a good musician, but I also teach ear training methods thereby giving the student the best in both worlds. Once the fundamentals and foundation are efficient, then according to the instrument I move to solo repertoire or experimentation or interpretation. I believe in the "one thing" lesson. If a student can improve on just one thing in a lesson than that lesson was successful. My past students would probably say I am overall a nice guy but incredibly picky when it comes to perfecting a piece and hold each of my students to a very high standard. I try to give immediate and concrete feedback at all times and my students know to ask for clarification if they need to. Read More

For beginning to intermediate students, I use the Suzuki Method. Each successive piece introduces a new skill, so that the student is always building on learned skills. Dr. Suzuki, the founder of the Suzuki Violin Method, spoke often of the “Suzuki Triangle.” This is an equilateral triangle with Parent, Teacher, and Student in each of the corners. The triangle helps illustrate that each role is equally important. The parent learns the rudimentary skills of the instrument and learns how to work in a positive and nurturing way to be more conducive to their child’s learning. Read More
