Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I'm a music education major that graduated from Mansfield University in 2016. As a performing musician, I have had the opportunity to perform some of the most demanding pieces for piano solo, as well as collaborative music. As a teacher, I have had the privilege to teach beginner to advanced level students on the piano. Although I enjoy teaching piano, I also study and teach string instruments. I adjust my private instruction based on student interests- if a student is into composing or using programs like finale or garageband, we construct lesson content around these interests. There's always the inclusion of music theory, at all levels of experience, because I feel that it is necessary for students to understand how the music is created and why in order to become better performers and musicians. I never let a student let a bad day get in the way of having a productive lesson- I like to touch base on how they're doing, and if things aren't going so well, we will always be able to find something positive that's going on in the lesson. I developed this mindset several years ago when I was recovering from a playing-related injury in my left arm. I had to teach myself several basic techniques over again through much trial and error. But instead of getting mad or angry at myself when I made a mistake, I forgave myself and tried again but with a slightly new approach. I want to instill this kind of thinking in each of my students.
