I teach from a flexible curriculum depending on the student's goals and interests. If someone wants to learn technique, music theory, songwriting, how to play Taylor Swift songs, arranging, composing, confidence, et cetera we will work on what is driving them to take lessons and learn! I typically start with the Suzuki Method or the ABC's of Violin, as well as the I Can Read Music series. I believe ear-training and note-reading are equally important to a students' development, as well as mixing in genres other than classical that interest my students, such as jazz, fiddle or celtic. The goal is to have fun through excelling and making rapid and permanent good habits. I believe performing (preferably by memory) on your instrument is the best part of learning an instrument, so encourage my students to perform at least twice a year in a recital. Read More

For beginners, I always start with Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. I typically will work with the student from the Suzuki Violin Method books and also will choose a scale book based on the student's progress. I often prefer for beginning students to play from the Hrimaly Scale Book. Later down the line, students can choose pieces that they are interested in, but I am always an advocate of classical pieces for fundamental training. Read More

I believe the student is there to find a passion. It is so important to find love for the art, and this is what I try to provide. A lead-by-example approach is the core of what I do. I "draw" the student toward their own voice. It is imperative to help them find their own "style."
