I am dedicated teacher and performer in the San Francisco Bay Area. I moved from Chicago about a year ago and am originally from Bethesda, Maryland. I started playing violin at age 5, completed the certificated program at Peabody Conservatory Preparatory in Baltimore, MD and earned my Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University. After my own experience with it as well as teaching it, Suzuki has great techniques and music for getting students experience in sight-reading, ear training, and memorization. With the youngest students I start with the fundamentals such as naming the different parts of the instrument and some basic rules with notes. Acronyms and games are always the best way to memorize the different rules. I write out detailed lessons plans for each individual student, constructed specifically for their learning process. For young beginners, I typically start with method books and repertiore that align with the student's school orchestra program. After progressing through fundamentals and developing routine practice habits, I introduce solo and ensemble repertiore in a variety of styles including classical, fiddle, folk and modern.
