Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Every time I teach a student, I learn something new about people and my instrument. I end up learning right along with them, and I love it! if you are starting from ground zero, I typically like to start with the Suzuki method books, and learning by ear. Learning good techniques and is of the utmost importance at this stage! Once you as a student are more comfortable with the violin, then I like to branch out and incorporate songs and techniques that you'd like to learn, which can be anything that is within your skill set. My students cover a wide range, from bluegrass to concert classical. The correct technique is, in my experience, the one that will be able to underlay any musical style. For example, if the left hand is flexible and well-formed, then blues, Bach and flamenco all will come more easily. When working with beginner students, we focus on the basics and fundamentals until they are rock solid. Most students use Suzuki or Essential Elements or some similar method book. After the initial stages, we start working through more technical studies, etudes, and keep adding to the repertoire. For more advanced students, I think its important to provide sufficient materials to continue improving and pushing their technique and repertoire to prepare for potential auditions, concerts, or gigs.
