I have taught private trumpet lessons for about 4 years in the Dublin/Stephenville area. I feel the best way to approach an instrument like the trumpet is to have steady warmups, technical studies (Clarke, Small, Arbans) with elements like flexibility, tone studies, and calisthenics; and of course, literature. I am very experienced with trumpet literature spanning from beginner to advanced. Based on skill level, all lessons are geared toward progressing to a goal that the student sets while setting individual milestones. I choose a method book that is most appropriate for the student. I played bass guitar in high school and university jazz bands, the latter of which performed very well at the UNC Greeley Jazz Festivals in the early 2000s. I was required to learn to play and teach brass instruments, and am proficient at those, as well. I have been very fortunate to also have been around a lot of world class teaching after becoming a teacher, myself; much of that is courtesy of the Texas Music Educators Association and the wonderful teachers I have encountered in my career. That is why at the start of our first lesson, I will assess what the student wishes to gain from our time together, and from our second lesson onwards, we will set smaller goals to be attained at the end of each lesson.
