I like for a student to look at a piece of music and then to explain to me what they think it is. Their perception is different than my perception and I can learn a lot about how to teach them based on how much they may already understand or do not understand. Understanding musical concepts and musical language is important and I emphasize getting basic concepts right immediately. If a student has a misconception about something I try to correct it so they can move forward make progress. Read More

Some of my favorite and most rewarding feelings in life have been when students have an "aha!" moment. These moments come after consistent engagement with a concept. Thats why I encourage daily practice (of any length, as long as its daily.) I balance grunt work with fun work, making sure that students are learning music THEY want to learn. My lessons usually begin with a short warm up, followed by a review of the goals set last week, followed by the introduction development of a new concept(or two), and concluding with a setting of goals for the next lesson, with the answering of questions all in between. Playing trumpet can be fun and enjoyable. It can also be one of the most physically demanding instruments to play. The physical aspect of playing can be the most crucial. Learning to play with proper air support, embouchure set, correct finger technique, and posture will not only make playing easier, but will also progress your abilities faster and more efficiently. My lessons are structured around the proper physical approach to the horn while applying fundamental techniques such as: Lip Flexibility, Technical Fingering, Range, Proper Equipment, and most importantly, Breath Control and Proper Abdominal Support. Teaching has been a part of my 'plan' since I was in middle school. I have been teaching privately since High School and have maintained a studio in each of the different cities I have lived in. I spent three years teaching beginning band for NYC Public Schools. Through these experiences, and my own practice, I have found that fundamentals and planned practice are top priority. In training this way, students will find they will excel quickly and be able to perform the current songs or traditional pieces they desire to perform. Read More

I believe that good breathing techniques are the key to playing brass instruments successfully. I will work with students on breathing, buzzing and creating a beautiful sound on their instruments. My teaching experience based on on my professional experience as a performer, It's not just about theory but also practical expertise. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and jazz music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the trumpet and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Trumpet
My teaching is based on the thought that everone can be comfortable with making music. Since comfort comes best when things are fun, I like to focus on music that the student likes. This usually involves improvising as soon as a student knows a few notes, which creates a chance for self-expression and leads to confidence in playing with others. I also place emphasis on phrasing, My experience is that many students get wrapped up in the mechanical process of playing at the expense of musicality. Read More
