I am a graduate of LIU Post who holds a Bachelors of Music in Music Education, Trombone Studies. During my time at LIU, I spent time taking lessons in clarinet, tuba, baritone horn/euphonium, piano, and trumpet. I am currently a Chorus/General Music teacher in Roosevelt. In addition to my day time job, I have maintained a small low brass studio but am looking to expand. I consider myself to be an adaptable teacher. Every student learns in a different way, and this necessitates a need to adapt and find different ways to teach each student. I am a very firm believer in fundamentals; that is to say, every student needs a solid foundation before moving on to more complex ideas. We need to walk first before we can run! So I typically take a very relaxed approach during the first few lessons, to get the student to loosen up and feel comfortable, all while observing the student in order to assess their strengths and weaknesses, and figure out what types of music the student is interested in making. Then I can tailor their future lessons so that their goal of playing that type of music is never forgotten, or overshadowed by lots of "exercises" they feel aren't fun. Read More

I use the method created by Adolf Herseth (Principle trumpeter in the Chicago Symphony for 50 years). I learned this method from William Fielder at Rutgers. This concept is based on using air as the primary energy source for producing sound. We will work on strengthening the breathing apparatus to be able to produce a pure clear tone that is without distortion. I was a student of Laurie Frink, who is widely regarded as the greatest trumpet/brass teacher to ever live. I use alot of her methods to teach students who are intermediate/advanced level. This includes her book, "flexus", along with a number of exercises tailored to the student. Laurie always found a way to teach every student differently, based on their weaknesses and strengths.
