For beginner students, I focus heavily on fundamentals consisting of breathing, mouthpiece buzzing, long tones, slurring/tonguing exercises, and scales. I will require each student to learn at least 1 new scale each week once we've established our individualized curriculum. I have been teaching trumpet since 2008 where I have been giving private, in home instruction. All of my students take part in the NYSSMA festival and annually score at the top of their class. Some students have made it into the SCMEA, NYSCAME, and All-State Festivals. I am a trained classical trumpeter and I am proficient on the Bb, C, Eb, A piccolo, G Bugle, and Flugelhorn trumpets. After a few months, I begin adding solo repertoire that is appropriate for age and ability. For middle school age students and adults, I start with Alfred's Basic Piano, Adult, Level 1.
