I have the most Experience using the following Method Books: Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, Instrumental Methods and many other methods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. Next the focus becomes proper grip for mallets/sticks and embouchure placement for winds. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet French Horn
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

For beginners who are children, I usually start with a method book series such as Bastien or Faber. As soon as it is appropriate, I also begin teaching fundamentals like scales, arpeggios, sight-reading, and supplemental technical training (Hanon exercises, for example). I also like to introduce works by famous composers as soon as I can - they come in all levels of difficulty and provide an opportunity to teach some music history. Read More

For beginners, I recommend Standards of Excellence and if the parent's budget allows, a subscription to Smart Music which can monitor and record daily practice and inform a student of minor errors so growth can happen between lessons. For intermediate or advanced students, I like to establish a well rounded warm-up routine for their practice and move into solo repertoire appropriate for their level. For adults, I like to cater towards their goals and desires. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
I believe in a well-rounded fundamental basis that incorporates all aspects of trumpet playing. From this starting point, any and all musical goals can be accomplished with diligent, persistent, and efficient practice. Progress in trumpet playing is measured by inches, and each student is at a different place in their musical development, trying to get better. I believe in the importance of tailoring a plan to each student, exploring how they learn, and meeting them where they are in their personal musical journey. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet Trombone Euphonium Tuba
I've been teaching lessons since I was in high school and younger students would ask for me for help with their playing. I love sharing my knowledge of music with others as it's something that has brought me a lot of joy in my life. One of the most important points I like to emphasize in my lessons is the importance of making a conscious effort to let go of the fear, anxiety, and physical tension that comes up naturally when most students have to play their instrument. I create an environment for my students that is stress free and is open for creative minds to express to me how they want to go about learning music. I take those ideas and use them to create an objective lesson plan of which we can build upon together for a fun, informative, and memorable experience in learning about music and their instrument. I have always enjoyed that fact that I made a contribution to people's lives by having them involved with music. Read More
