My students love the Faber Faber "Adventures in Music". These method books, in my opinion, have some of the most innovative and motivating pieces. This method gives the student a solid foundation in theory focusing on scales, and used in concert with other materials bring the student to a very proficient level. I also use supplementary materials such as Dozen A Day, Hanon, and Czerny. Martha Mier books for young children, especially her "Imagine" books are unique and inspiring. Read More

I am a passionate and highly energized teacher. I graduated from Rhode Island College in 2010, and since then my life in music has taken me to numerous places. I did a tour in Austria and the Czech Republic, I have had the opportunity to take private lessons/master classes with some of the worlds best, and I get to share my love and knowledge of music with my students. For young beginners of piano, I start with Edna Mae Burnam's Step By Step Book 1, as it begins right away with basic reading of notes and music. From there, I progress into the Faber Piano Adventures Series. Adults will start with the Alfred Adult Piano Course. Voice students are welcome to choose one song each cycle, while I choose two. It's important to me that they get to express themselves and what they like, while also learning new pieces for their repertoire. Read More

For beginners, especially young kids, I would like to focus more on the gestures and basic theory which serves your score reading. For intermediate students, I would teach a bit more in-depth theory to correspond the levels of playing, as well as memorising pieces. For advanced students, a more professional training such as advanced theory, college-level basic sight reading and singing, and relatively difficult repertoire will be given. All students will be asked to practice idioms, Hanon and Hutcheson. Read More

My lessons are very structured, but within the structure is a lot of freedom. An hour long lesson might look something like this: First 10 min.: Warm-ups, discussion about posture, hand position and muscular/skeletal health while playing. Next 10 min.: Performance of previous weeks assignments, with discussion about whether preparation was adequate, what was missed (usually dynamics and other articulations) and what could be done to improve. Next 10 min.: Based half on performance and half on my own ideas, work on a number of techniques to strengthen the weaknesses the student is facing. Read More

Understanding a style of a musical composition is always an important part of my teaching process. There are three elements of how I see a complex musician: emotional reaction to music, intelligent understanding of a musical composition, and the technical ability playing the piece. I always project a long-term and a short-term plans with my students. I believe only mutual interest and collaborate engagement would bring us to the goal. Read More
