Berthe H

Instruments:

My name is Berthe, I started taking piano lessons at the age of four and performed for the first time at the age of 8 at the Assembly Hall of the American University of Beirut. After graduating from High School in 1978, I attended the Faculty of Music of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik/Lebanon, where I pursued musical studies toward a Ph. D. in Music education and an advanced piano diploma.

Ronnie Z

Instruments:

Hello! I am a highly energetic and passionate music educator from the central Florida area. Over the past 10 years, I have worked with a wide range of instrumental students in and out of the classroom. My primary focus is percussion (contemporary and orchestral), but I am proficient on several other instruments as well. My main goal as an educator is to help students understand the fundamentals of music at a higher level and fine tune their skills on their chosen instrument. I also strongly support creativity in music and enjoy helping students find their own path whether it be through playing or writing music.

Nick S

Instruments:

I am a very motivated instructor who loves sharing my love and passion for music.  I graduated from Glenwood High School in 2004.  I then went on to Western Illinois University where I studied jazz on trumpet.  I also went to Lincoln Land Community College with a Jazz performance major on trumpet and piano.  I taught choir at Lanphier High School during the main choir teacher's medical leave.  I played at Walt Disney World in 2005 as a fill-in on trumpet.  I have traveled across the country and internationally as well.  I have opened for and performed in major national acts across the country.  My teaching career started in early 2001, including private instruction in piano, trumpet, and voice.

Gregory d

Instruments:

A native of Florida, I recently graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa under the tutelage of Scott Kluksdahl, an internationally renowned cellist and pedagogue. My other primary cello teachers include Loran Stephenson (National Symphony Orchestra), Helga Winold (Indiana University) and John Kaboff (Arlington, VA). I have participated in masterclasses with David Requiro and the Baumer String Quartet, Noreen-Cassidy Polera, Rhonda Rider, Jan Müller-Szeraws, Joshua Gordon, Carol Ou, Rupert Thompson, Robert Jesselson, Ross Harbaugh, Rebecca Penneys and Norman Fischer. As a strong advocate of new music, I have actively participated in numerous student composer concerts that have presented new and viable works from USF's esteemed composition program. I have also participated in the Apple Hill Chamber Music Festival (2012 and 2013) and the annual Tennessee Cello Workshop (2009). I was the principal cellist of the 2009 National Philharmonic Summer String Institute under the direction of maestro Piotr Gajewski and I was recently the Assistant Principal of the University of South Florida Symphony Orchestra. Throughout my high school career, I taught and performed actively as a guitarist and pianist in many varying ensembles ranging from improvisatory ensembles to rock and roll groups.   As a motivated instructor, I focus on building depth of experience and knowledge regarding music and all of its aspects in students of all ages. Furthermore, I proclaim the importance of the fact that musicians create and communicate directly through their presentation of musical works at any level and on any instrument.

Gian-Francesco F

Instruments:

I was born in the United States but I grew up in Italy where my parents are from.  I was given my first classical guitar when I was 3 years old.  For the next 9 years it was just another toy in my room but I became very familiar with the instrument. At the age of 12 I started my formal music training, first with a foundation of piano and then moving on to my favorite, the guitar.  I took weekly classical guitar lessons for the next four years from renown teacher Giovanna Verna, in Casamassima, Italy.  This included learning solfeggio, how to read music aloud first and then by playing it, attention on posture in the classical approach, working on mastering a collection of material from the european classical guitar academic repertoire, and performing it twice a year as a culminating stage of the learning experience for that semester. My first experience playing with a large group of performers was when I joined my church choir as one of the accompanists.  My new guitar instructor, Fabio Nanna, focused on folk-style strumming techniques, rhythm guitar, and all the basic chords including the painful barre`. In my last years of high school I joined my first rock band and therefore started playing the electric guitar.  My third guitar teacher, Antonio Macino, taught me everything about blues pentatonic movable scales, power chords, and how to solo over the basic rock song structure.  Along with recording in the studio, playing in front of people with my own band was one a new wonderful experience and one of my favorite of all times. I have been performing live with bands or solo since 1992 in Italy, California, and Florida.  I released three albums which are available online under Gianfranco Ferri: Luce(2002), Ridgewlker(2009) both instrumentals, and Strega(2005) with my band of the same name.

More Information About Piano Lessons

If purchasing an acoustic piano is not an option, we recommend that students look to buy a keyboard or digital piano for their lessons and practice. When buying a keyboard or digital piano, look to purchase one with 61 or more keys, as well as one with weighted hammer action. Having more keys, as well as weighted keys will most resemble the responsiveness and feel of an acoustic piano. Typically, keyboards are a cheaper option, they take up less space, are portable and can be played with headphones. Some of the most popular brands of keyboard or digital piano are Yamaha, Roland and Casio.
Taking piano lessons from the comfort of your own home is the most convenient way of learning to the play the instrument. Finding the additional time out of a busy schedule to transport your child to and from their lessons can be difficult, making home lessons a convenient, time and money saving option. The only thing necessary for home lessons is a keyboard or piano to play on! There is no difference between the lesson content of studio or home lessons - only the location is different. Home lessons help provide a safe, familiar and comfortable learning environment for students.
Whether you have an interest in learning to play contemporary, jazz, blues or classical piano, our piano teachers can help develop your playing through one-on-one lessons. Throughout your piano lessons, you will cover a wide range of skills ranging from basic playing, to music theory, right the way through more advanced piano study. For those just starting out, the essential elements of piano that you will learn are hand position, fingering technique and applying these skills as you learn major and minor scales and simple songs using one hand. You will progress to learning chords, such as major chords and start to put these into practice by learning simple songs. Our lessons will cover the theory side of piano, such as reading music, sight reading and chord charts. Experienced players can work on certain aspects of their playing, such as improvisational skills, genre-specific playing such as jazz, or developing their repertoire.
Learning a new musical skill as an adult is a great way to keep your brain fresh! We have many adult students actively taking lessons with us, and this actually represents around 50% of our student base. Our instructors will offer an individually tailored lesson plan to the needs of an adult student. You will learn the technique of the instrument, specific repetoire suited to your skill level, and learn how to read music and sight read.
Piano lessons for children will focus on learning the fundamentals of the technique of the instrument and learning to read music and rhythm. We suggest beginning piano lessons no earlier than age 4, due to the attention span of the child, as well as the strength they have in their hands for playing. Piano Lessons will offer an excellent introduction to learning music for a child. Music theory and musicianship skills will also be taught during the lessons. Piano lessons are a great choice for introducing the art of music to your child!
