My main instruments I play professionally are guitar, piano, and bass, as well as vocals. I was a Band Director for 28 years and can teach orchestral instruments through High School. Tramaine D

Instruments:

I am a singer/musician/songwriter and arranger who entered the music scene at a very young age.  By the age of five (5) I was harmonizing with my two (2) older siblings singing Gospel.  I began playing the organ and piano by ear at the age of nine (9), it was and is a gift from God.  From that time till now I have learned and sat under many teachers.  My playing and singing has become well groomed and for that I will always give all glory to God for his kindness in giving me these gifts.

Nick S

Instruments:

I am a very motivated instructor who loves sharing my love and passion for music.  I graduated from Glenwood High School in 2004.  I then went on to Western Illinois University where I studied jazz on trumpet.  I also went to Lincoln Land Community College with a Jazz performance major on trumpet and piano.  I taught choir at Lanphier High School during the main choir teacher's medical leave.  I played at Walt Disney World in 2005 as a fill-in on trumpet.  I have traveled across the country and internationally as well.  I have opened for and performed in major national acts across the country.  My teaching career started in early 2001, including private instruction in piano, trumpet, and voice.

Osmond B

Instruments:

I grew up in the West Indies.  This explains my easy -going, "no problem" attitude. I have performed as a piano soloist  at various venues around the world ( churches, hotels, cruiseships, concert halls )

Gian-Francesco F

Instruments:

I was born in the United States but I grew up in Italy where my parents are from.  I was given my first classical guitar when I was 3 years old.  For the next 9 years it was just another toy in my room but I became very familiar with the instrument. At the age of 12 I started my formal music training, first with a foundation of piano and then moving on to my favorite, the guitar.  I took weekly classical guitar lessons for the next four years from renown teacher Giovanna Verna, in Casamassima, Italy.  This included learning solfeggio, how to read music aloud first and then by playing it, attention on posture in the classical approach, working on mastering a collection of material from the european classical guitar academic repertoire, and performing it twice a year as a culminating stage of the learning experience for that semester. My first experience playing with a large group of performers was when I joined my church choir as one of the accompanists.  My new guitar instructor, Fabio Nanna, focused on folk-style strumming techniques, rhythm guitar, and all the basic chords including the painful barre`. In my last years of high school I joined my first rock band and therefore started playing the electric guitar.  My third guitar teacher, Antonio Macino, taught me everything about blues pentatonic movable scales, power chords, and how to solo over the basic rock song structure.  Along with recording in the studio, playing in front of people with my own band was one a new wonderful experience and one of my favorite of all times. I have been performing live with bands or solo since 1992 in Italy, California, and Florida.  I released three albums which are available online under Gianfranco Ferri: Luce(2002), Ridgewlker(2009) both instrumentals, and Strega(2005) with my band of the same name.

More Information About Piano Lessons

As students will need to practice the content taught during their lessons, they will need to invest in a digital piano or a keyboard. There are a number of different keyboards on the market, however we suggests looking to buy one with 61 keys or more. Keyboards with weighted action keys are most like that of a real piano, and are recommended. Keyboards are often a cheaper and more convenient option that digital pianos or a real piano, as they can be transported around and played using headphones. That said, if buying an acoustic piano is within your budget, it will provide the most satisfying learning experience.
Musika offers one-on-one, in-home guitar lessons that are designed specifically for each individual student. Whether your lesson takes place in the studio or at home, students will get the exact same lesson content, with the only difference being the location. Parents will find home guitar lessons a much more convenient option for their child, as it saves the time and costs of transporting their children to and from the studio. Younger students will find that learning to play the guitar in the comfort of their own homes greatly benefits their development as they are learning in a supportive, secure and familiar environment.
All students start their lessons at different levels of experience and with different aims and goals in mind. For beginner students who are new to the piano, lessons will be devised to give students the fundamentals of good piano playing. Students will learn the correct posture, hand position and fingering techniques for playing scales and chords. Students can develop these skills through practising scales, arpeggios and simple melodies using both hands. For advanced students, they will cover more intricate skills, such as creating runs and fills to add interest and variation to their playing, to develop their repertoire of pieces they can play and to develop their sight reading. Some students may have a specific genre that they are interested in learning, such as jazz piano. Students will learn the musical theory and techniques that underly a host of musical genres. Musika teachers are able to recommend books or specific areas of additional study that they feel will advance each individual student and help to achieve their goals.
Learning a new musical skill as an adult is a great way to keep your brain fresh! We have many adult students actively taking lessons with us, and this actually represents around 50% of our student base. Our instructors will offer an individually tailored lesson plan to the needs of an adult student. You will learn the technique of the instrument, specific repetoire suited to your skill level, and learn how to read music and sight read.
Children are recommended to start piano lessons no earlier than age 4 or 5. The attention span and personality of the child are something to consider when thinking of taking lessons. Even if your child has no evident musical inclinations, piano lessons offer a great option for introducing your child to music. During their lessons children will learn how to read music, fundamentals of musicianship and sight reading, music theory techniques, and ear training.
