I have been teaching guitar/ songwriting since I was a teenager. My first students were my nephews and niece, which was a great introduction in learning to work with young kids. Over the past decade I have taught students of all ages and experience levels while working at a music store in Columbus. I began teaching years ago and have pursued it off and on over the years. I have taught in students homes as well as my own home. I encourage everyone to try to learn an instrument as an outlet for creativity. Practice is as deep as you want to make it, but if you are looking for serious improvement and development I suggest at least 30-60 min a day. I am able to teach with a method book, and also without one. I have found success with the Hal Leonard method books and the William Leavitt books. I also enjoy going outside of the method books, writing out lessons by hand, and teaching the student songs and techniques they wish to learn. For complete beginners, I start out by teaching the student the names of the strings on the guitar and go into basic chords. Read More

My music experience began in 5th grade when I started playing the Bassoon for the school orchestra. I then picked up Bass guitar and performed alongside the Pep band and the Jazz band and continued my practice with both all the way through college. After college I began making my own music and currently have 5 albums out between the numerous projects Ive involved myself with. Music is meant to be fun, so I make the guitar lessons fun!! I have a pretty relaxed approach to teaching the guitar! No stress!! I have my students provide me with a list of artist or bands that they enjoy listening to as well as songs from those artists that they are interested in learning. I review the list and select an appropriate song for them to learn based on the complexity of the song and their ability. Read More
