My teaching style is to identify what area a student needs help in and to remediate the problem by creating supplemental materials. Showing students what to practice and how to practice are key elements. My methods are geared to improve tone production, articulation, phrasing and musicality. I strongly recommend that students select classical music to practice. I heavily emphasize the playing of scales and arpeggios. I am a jazz musician and composer at heart. The woodwinds (saxophone, flute, clarinet and ewi (Electronic Wind Instrument)) will always be my main performing instruments. Fir beginning students, I usually begin using what ever book the student is using in Band class. I also like the Rubank Method of books for fundamentals, duets, and some solo work. After the student has a grasp of scales and tonguing, I will pick suitable repertoire. Also, if a contest is coming up or an audition for a regional band, I will work on this materials. I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Musical Arts at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where I study flute with internationally-acclaimed soloist, Marina Piccinini. Before coming to Peabody I studied at the Conservatoire National de Paris as well as at l'acadmie international d't in Nice, France. Further work was with Berlin Philharmonic principal flutist Emmanuel Pahud at the Domaine Forget International Academy. I previously earned degrees both at Peabody as well Oberlin College/Conservatory and have been teaching as a TA and Private teacher since my undergraduate years - working with students is really where it's at for me!
