Hi! I am a full time middle school teacher based in Annapolis. I love working with children and families. In my free time, I teach, compose, and perform music in the Maryland/DC area. I've also had the opportunity to perform internationally (Spain, China, Argentina). I am trained in drums and guitar. When I'm not playing music, I'm listening to it :) I have strong communication skills and am responsible. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My experience with teaching began when I would work at the local music store in Springfield Va. during summer breaks. Even though I graduated with a Bachelors in Performance, teaching was something I enjoyed having seen progress with students. After college, teaching became a part time job for me and has at times, become more important than performing or recording. Being that I had such a range of talented instructors at Berklee, and experience with lessons from other pro drummers, I feel I have many angles to draw from and can apply that to different students needs. Steve has spent much of his professional career as a freelance musician in New Orleans, LA, Ithaca, NY, and Washington, DC. During this time Steve worked with many of the great local jazz and RB masters including George Porter, Walter Wolfman Washington, Mem Shannon, Anders Osborne, Ryan Burage, and The Louisiana Philharmonic. He has written and arranged for several of his own groups as well including: Otra, El Rumbon, The Mutron Warriors, Reichlen-Battles-Dobry, and Solstice. Read More
