The way I teach is about showing the student "the dance" of drums. The exercises and rudiments they practice are the movements in a dance. For example, with Punk drums the movements need to be mastered and played fast so the student will have to practice to get the movements up to speed instead of focusing on the beat. With Pop drums the movements need to be comfortable but precise as the student learns the importance of a metronome and how to relate to it by thinking of it as a member of the band. Read More

With that in mind, each student determines their own progress by how much time and effort they put into what they learn. I have a strong connection to music education. I was significantly affected by music teachers at a young age and benefited greatly from strong music education programs. My teaching method is relatively simple, but is somewhat backwards from how most people teach music. I start with teaching the student a song, at his/her level, by listening to the record and by my example. After that I like to go back and give written out exercises and notes on what we did in the song. Often times a student will get a technical exercises and begin to get frustrated with it because they can't see why they're learning it. Read More

For any level I like to check to see if they have a solid enough grasp on fundamentals. For drum kit users I like to only have the kick drum, snare and hi-hat available. If its a more experienced player, I like to have them play a simple groove just to see where they are and tailor how I teach them to most benefit where they would like to go in their journey. Hello whoever you are, I am Andreas. I come from Sweden and live in San Fernando Valley, CA (Los Angeles). I started playing the drums at the age of 5 and played in bars when I was in my young teens. At the age of 16, I won first place the annual Swedish Championships in Drums. Quite an interesting concept, no? Next year, I won it all again.
