For all my students I like to balance between making our way through a method book and breaking down different songs and exercises. I recommend Hal Leonard's Essential Elements/Method books or Standard of Excellence books for my woodwind/guitar/ukulele students, Piano Adventures by Faber books for my piano students, and Breaking It Down or Alfred's Beginning Drumset Method for my drum students. I focus on tone production, articulation and phrasing. Sight reading, improvisation and music theory follow next. With clarinet and saxophone students I spend a lot of time on reed selection and care. There are so many misconceptions about reed strength and how it relates to mouthpieces that I could talk about it all day (and usually do). If following a school band's curriculum we can work on whatever book they require. To make lessons more personal we will move at the pace of the student, however most of the time their band director will have weekly playing assignments, It will be my goal to make sure each students is fully prepared for the assignment and for the more ambitious students, to go beyond. My job is to assess the students abilities and lead them down the appropriate paths to achieving their musical goals. As an award-winning flutist, I am a solo, orchestral and chamber musician. I perform with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Casals Festival Of Puerto Rico, the Philharmonia Symphony Orchestra, and Camerata Filarmónica, among others. My experience includes performances with conductors such as Pablo Heras-Casado, Maximiano Valdés, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Victor Yampolsky, and Kenneth Kiesler. In 2014, Cosme was appointed artistic director of the summer orchestra " New Symphonic Project".
