For beginning students, i'll typically start with Suzuki books. It's important for students to learn the left and right hand separately before putting everything together. Once a student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I'll introduce some simpler solo repertoire appropriate for his or her skill level. For advanced, I'll be happy to talk about more advanced musical techniques and theories. I am a college student who is very passionate to share my knowledge in music. Playing cello since the age of 4, I have competed in all levels of NYSSMA including All-State. I have been the principle cellist of my high school chamber orchestra, nominated for top ten in the country, for a few years. As an instructor, its important to me that my students are developing both their skills and their love for music at an equal rate. I do this by assigning exercises and material that will be both rewarding and fun for the student. I also set timely goals so that they have something to look forward to in their next lesson. For beginning string students, I start students with 'Time For Strings' written by Fishburn and Luman. This book is especially helpful for beginners due to the unique rhythmic approach. I also have an all-inclusive curriculum for beginning strings. When ready (usually within the first 6-8 months of lessons), all students are encouraged to participate in NYSSMA Festival's. MY name is Oded and I am an Israeli Cellist currently living in NYC. I started playing the cello when I was 4 after watching a video of Yo-Yo Ma perform Elgar Cello Concerto, which made me fall in-love with the sound of the cello. I began my studies in Suzuki method and soon moved to study at a music conservatory in my own town Kfar-Saba, Israel. I then graduated from both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Cello Performance and have been performing around the world as a chamber musician and a soloist ever since, playing in major recital halls such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, and Tel-Aviv Museum.
