For years 1 & 2, we will go through the "red" and "blue" books (Standard of Excellence) together, in order to formulate the right habits with embouchure, breathing, posture, and learning to read and play the correct notes. Once some headway has been made, we can begin "Arban's" for technical studies, Bai Lin's "Lip Flexibilities" for advance warm up and excersies, and Rochut's "Melodious Etudes" for solo material. I strongly believe that a well-rounded music education helps a player to become a more confident, musical, and an emotionallyyaware musician. As such, I like to give my students small assignments focused on topics besides just performance, such as Music Theory and Aural Skills exercises. My teaching style is very patient. I encourage my students to be patient with themselves as learning music is a life long journey. I encourage students to practice for at least 5 minutes everyday. I believe this allows them the chance to at least get their hands on their instrument. Often times once we get our hands on our instrument we end up staying their longer than we intended.
