My desire is for all of my students to know and learn proper technique. For beginner students, I will start with theory basics that are foundational to learning and can be directly applied to their instrument. Once they gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals, I will introduce more complete solo repertoire that they can begin to work on. Depending on the interests, learning desires, and level of the student, I will move forward with what interests them, though I may require some classical selections as I believe it to be a style foundational to a great musician. I am a seasoned teacher of over 24 years. I've taught both in public school and privately. I teach students of all ages and levels. I have a solid classical background but am well rounded in using a variety of styles to enhance students' enjoyment, learning, and appreciation of music. My personal pleasure is in church music, musical theatre, and jazz. I design lessons to meet students needs and goals. With a specialty in vocal health I can help voice students solve vocal problems and learn correct mechanics in singing to create the most confidence and beauty in singing. I offer extras to my students in the way of master classes, recitals, and competitions to enhance their experience. Read More

My teaching philosophy boils down to one simple principle: singing is an athletic endeavor. Training the voice means training the body. Just as you can't learn to throw an accurate curve ball by reading a book, you can't strengthen the muscles that lead to a healthy singing technique by simply talking about it; you've got to train your body to do it automatically. I emphasize stretching and breathing exercises that strengthen the diaphragm and allow your body to produce a free, healthy sound, and then work on focusing that sound in a way that keeps stress off the vocal cords and keeps your instrument healthy. Instruments: Voice
For beginning students, I typically start with a little music theory so that they understand how everything works together. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I love inspiring students and learning what their goals are to ensure they are set up for success to make money doing what they love, to be able to perform in front of an audience, and encourage them to reach whatever goals they might have! I have been trained in various styles ranging from classical, musical theatre, pop, country, etc. I write my own songs as well, and would love to encourage and assist budding songwriters with their craft. I aim to make every voice lesson an exciting and helpful experience. Read More
