I like to get an idea from the student and the parent what their expectations are for music lessons. From there, the student and I come up with musical goals to accomplish for that year. We create a practice schedule based on the student's school and extracurricular activities and try to follow that schedule as much as possible. I also like to incorporate other styles of music such as popular Broadway pieces and Contemporary pieces into the student's repertoire so that they can have greater diversity in their piano playing or singing. My work teaching drum set began at age 16 with a position at The Blue Ridge Studio for the Performing Arts in Berryville,VA as well as teaching out of my home. Once I moved to Denton to attend the University of North Texas, I began teaching piano,drum set and guitar for the companies Taylor Robinson Music based out of Dallas and Hall Music Productions in Southlake,TX. My approach to teaching emphasizes the importance of patience and forming building blocks that will take the student to where they want to go, over time. I like to encourage my students by focusing on small victories that happen in each lesson so that they are inspired to accomplish more and more as our lessons continue. I have a friendly, no-pressure approach to teaching and I want my students to feel as comfortable as possible not only to be amazing singers and performers, but to also be equipped accordingly to handle snags or setbacks that may happen along the way.
