I have been teaching since 1980. I am originally from North Carolina and moved to Colorado in the 80s. I am a member of National Music Teachers Association, Colorado State Music Teachers Association and Foothills Music Teachers Association. I have taught both at the private and public school levels and teach students beginning at age 5 through adult level. Students don't learn if they don't feel motivated or enjoy what they are doing. Therefore, I make it a point to set an agenda in each lesson that starts and ends with something fun, and is also predictable so that students know intuitively how to go about their practicing. During each lesson, the student and I set realistic goals for practicing and, despite the popular saying that the more time you spend practicing, the more effective your practice is, I have learned from many students that each student practices and learns from practicing in their own way. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music! I graduated from Ole Miss in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with minors in both Music and English and I graduated again in 2012 with a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language with a subfield in Music. My teaching style has been described by students as such: "Natural, with a focus on healthy singing," "concentrating on developing techniques specific to each genre of music," and "always fun but still really helpful!" I emphasize becoming self-sufficient as a musician so that my students can become great musicians outside of the lesson environment.
