I graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Vocal Music Education in 2010, and am almost finished with my doctorate in choral conducting. I grew up in a musical household and took lessons in viola, piano, handbells, and guitar before I convinced my parents that voice was my true musical passion. I took voice lessons throughout middle school, high school, and majored in music my first year at college. I have a bachelors degree in Theatre Arts Studies from Brigham Young University and a Berklee Music Performance program certificate. I have 5 years of private teaching experience and have also taught vocal workshops and directed musical theater plays. I think it’s so important that students enjoy what they are doing so they have a desire to practice and work hard, so singing doesn’t become a chore. My passion for music was born from a very young age thanks to my family who all perform music. My training begins at age 9, when I receive a scholarship from the prestigious Julio Bocca institution to do musical comedy training. I have high expectations in y studio, but I make it clear that students will progress at different speeds and that’s okay. Every week I give a set of warm-ups and exercises to focus on and expect students to practice so we can hone them when we’re together, but I’ll never ask a student to do something they’re not comfortable or familiar with - if ever there’s a question I’m there to answer or demonstrate.
