I believe that learning an instrument must be taught from all three approaches: tactile, aural, and visual. I incorporate all three of these into each lesson so the student can walk away feeling like she has gotten closer to her instrument! For young students, I follow a Suzuki approach where a parent or guardian plays a vital role in practicing and musical development. I use the Suzuki books, a reliable source for musical progress, as well as some American fiddlin' tunes from the O'Connor Method Books. Read More

I started playing the violin at the age of 8 and now I have been playing it for 30 years. I started working with children when I turned 19 and to this day I have never stopped. I studied and worked at the same time, as well as playing in an orchestra, and I developed a strong work ethic. I believe the best teaching method is one that focuses on the accomplishments of each student. I have several different rewards systems that I will use to motivate students to practice at home. Part of this system is encouraging my students to set their own realistic goals and walking them through how to reach them. Every student follows the reoccurring desire to make music for as long as it takes them before they actually begin to find their own musical voice.
