I began studying the recorder in Israel at the age of five. Keenly interested in music, I embarked on my lifelong love of the violin at age seven when I began violin studies with Leon Asa. After emigrating to the United States in 1958, I continued my early violin studies with the late Emily Cleve Gregerson of Omaha, Nebraska. In 1967, while an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, I was accepted as an advanced violin student by Elliot Golub, who was at the time a member of the Contemporary Chamber Players at the University of Chicago under Ralph Shapey, and a founder of the acclaimed Music of the Baroque series in Chicago. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with students and hope to cultivate a life-long enjoyment and appreciation of music.  Both classical and popular musical repertoire are taught. Seeing students develop and grow in their musical ability is very rewarding. Each lesson is divided into tuning, scales, review of assignment, and learning new piece of repertoire for the next week.            I base my lessons around the student, not a cookie cutter method. I look for three crieteria: a student's interests, ability level, and time they have to practice. I am very interested in what the student thinks of the lessons, and ask for feedback frequently. I encourage them to bring their own ideas and songs into the lessons. I am very keen on review; if someone doesn't understand what we did last week, they won't progress to what we are doing now. Read More

For Beginning students or kids from 3 years old, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and also some other theory to help them to read the notes on staff. Once Student slightly progressed, I will begin to start shop pieces with another finger technique etude, to building stronger and solid finger and also I would recommend some music repertories to listen to it, just for building music expression. For the Adult or Teenager, I would like to know what kind of music brings them here, and we can set that piece what they eventually want to play as a goal, and helping student build and practice the technique.
