I have teaching experience in several areas of music. In addition to directing middle school and high school bands in the public school setting, I have also taught music appreciation (both middle and high school level), kindergarten music, and philosophy courses to college undergrads. I make sure that the student has a grip on the material without ever making them feel like the material is a little too hard for them to understand. When they are laughing, they are learning and what better way to learn than to have fun with it? I incorporate dancing, poetry and all other art forms to teach and the students gravitate to that and use what they learn in our lesson to write their own music and go off to have fun doing so. The point of music is to have fun creating art, sharing that gift, all while learning a skill that not many others are able to learn, but here are so many other benefits from what you learn that can be utilized for the rest of your life.
