When working with younger students, I make sure that the lesson is interactive and fun, while giving clear instructions. Like many of you I started playing in grade school. I wanted to play trumpet but I didn't turn in my permission slip in time so I had to wait another year. The next time I chose saxophone. I had a really wonderful instrumental music teacher who I credit to me being a musician today. She gets real embarrassed when I tell people that but it's true. I use a variety of methods for my teaching style. I usually have a few method books that I bring to a first lesson, and after meeting the student I will decide on the best one. Once the student has progressed and shows some motivation to be slightly challenged, I'll introduce "popular" music so that the student feels a sense of accomplishment!
