My experience dates back to high school, where I was given the opportunity to work at a summer band camp. This was the same band camp that I began my musical journey in. Here i was the Trumpet, theory and Marching band instructor. I utilized knowledge of music theory and trumpet knowledge to introduce students’ ages 6-17 to concepts, and basic musical rudiments. For beginning students on brass instruments, we will send time getting the student to be comfortable holding and playing the instrument with a good, air driven sound. Once the student is able to reliably play their first notes in a rhythmic fashion, we can begin working on introducing music notation into the equation. Each student will work at his or her own pace. I will help the students set goals for the week, a month, and a year. We will then reflect on where we are at that time. The student and I will be working together to find out how they can be successful. I will find out the students likes through lessons and work to expand their thoughts.
