In the arena of voice I teach in the Bel Canto method focusing on building a strong musical and vocal foundation. That being said, in all instruments and styles of music that I teach I believe in tailoring the method to the needs and interests of the student. I began teaching music in high school, a friend coworker had a son that wanted to learn trumpet and it was a fun way to make money. As I continued into college, I learned that I was able to give lessons to members of the band or choir as an employee to the Adrian College Academic Services Department and I was happy to do so. In addition to Adrian College students, I also gave lessons to local high schoolers (mostly tuba players) and many where featured and scored well in state Solo and Ensemble exhibitions. Read More

Music has always been my full-time profession. At the age of 13 I started playing bass in local bands professionally. After high school, I embarked on a collegiate musical journey, which led me to stays at Columbia College in Chicago, Bowling Green State University (where I received a full tuition scholarship) and Wayne State University. My drive to teach comes from students' learning. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a breakthrough in a tough passage, or an "ah-ha" moment when discussing theory. Seeing my students succeed is one of the most gratifying things for me. Success in students can be measured in so many ways, and each individual will have different goals. My job is to match my students where they are at, and try to bring them to the next level. Working with individual students, I like to get the opinion of the student as to what they believe they want to work on, and use that an overlying theme for what we work on, as well as what I recommend.
