For young beginning students, I really like to emphasize the fundamentals using whatever book the student uses for their band class. Once they get a good grasp on the fundamentals, then I start to introduce some solo repertoire appropriate to their skill level. For students who are older, I like to find out what area of the trumpet they want to improve on and structure our lessons to try and improve on those areas, as well as incorporate other fundamentals and solo repertoire. I try to make the lessons as fun as possible and geared towards what the student wants to learn. Following high school, I spent six years scooping up opportunities, training, and degrees in music education. Another trip to Bangladesh opened my ears to the delightful and rich musical experiences of other, divergent cultures. Instilling a fundamental mastery of the instrument and musicianship is my top priority, no matter how long it may take. My approach to methods will vary depending on the student. For beginners, I like using the Robert Getchell books, in addition to the My First Arban, Essential Elements, and my own exercises. My teaching experience has grown tremendously since being a teacher's assistant when I was in high school. I have been consistently involved with teacher music since my graduation from high school in 2007. In the Fort Wayne, IN area, I have worked with marching, jazz, and concert bands with multiple middle and high schools. I also have experience teaching smaller ensembles and private lessons.
