The methods I use in my teaching are a mix between Suzuki, Paul Rolland, and Mimi Zweig. Within these methods the strongest characteristics can be found, aural skills, freedom of movement in playing, tension free playing, building a strong foundation, creating an atmosphere for mistakes to be encouraged, and enjoyment in performing. With these methods combined, for beginners it is REQUIRED for a parent to be present in lessons and to act as a teacher at home. Read More

During my time teaching at Dillard as a student myself, it was then that I realized that I am really passionate about teaching music. In 2019, I began my college journey at Florida International University and became a Communications major; however, I did not want to stop studying the violin. So, I started studying with Juilliard Graduate and one of the original members of the Amernet String Quartet, Professor Marcia Littley, to continue my violin studies and pursue my minor in Music. I began taking violin and piano around the age of 9 years. I continued studying through private lessons. Later I studied at the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford. I have played in numerous ensembles including the Colchester Civic Orchestra (concertmaster), Hartt Early Music Ensemble, Hartt Chamber, Chapel Hill Philharmonia, Chapel Hill Chamber Players, White Iris Light pera Orchestra and Good Shepherd Chamber Players. I am currently violinist in the Southcoast Symphony Orchestra and also in the violin-guitar Jazz duo Tesoro which plays throughout the Southeast United States. Read More

For beginner strings I use several method books (elementary and 6th students can come with prescribed method books from their public school teacher) such as Essential Elements, Orchestra Expressions, String Essentials. If parents would like to use solo books, I use Suzuki Method Books (not necessarily the method of only learning by ear) in conjunction with note reading workbooks. As they age I use other method books (violin, viola, cello. double bass) such as Wohlfahrt, Mazas, Kreutzer, Flesch, Schradieck, Dont, Bach Sonatas and Partitas, Rick Mooney's shifting and thump position book series, Klengel, Bach Cello Suites, Popper, PIatti, Smandl Method, Fischer, and of course as they advance any standard sonatas and concerti, such as Mozart 5 in AM, Mendelssohn in em, Hadyn Concerto in CM, anything from the Baroque, classical, and romantic era. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music and want to continue to play the violin not just as a hobby! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson and knowing the strength behind private lessons as opposed to group lessons only. The student is more likely to progress if they are consistently practicing and have private lessons with their teacher to develop technique and skill in a one-on-one learning environment. Read More
