I have created my own method of teaching which I have perfected over the years. I create my own exercises and practice materials based on the level and interests of each individual student. I use the software program "Finale" in order to create the musical compositions that I prepare for my students. I always accompany my students on the piano. I teach my students to read music as well as to play by ear. I host 2 recitals each year. We learn one song start to finish and I hire a professional band to learn and perform the songs with my students at a local establishment or at my studio. I encourage all of my students to perform with our recital band. As far as books, I prefer to use the "new Breed", by Gary Chester, the ''Art of Bop Drumming'', by John Riley , and the ''encyclopedia of reading rhythms'', by Garry Hess, but there are many other books I recommend for specific needs. I have taught elementary, middle, and high school music and have enjoyed each experience. I was teaching chorus, class keyboard, music theory, music appreciation, and modern band ensemble. All throughout highschool I taught the beginner drummers how to play the snare drum and drum set. Since coming to college, I've privately been teaching bass and drums to friends and colleagues. Sticking with a student for a long period of time and seeing their improvement is so exiting.
