As a member of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute, in 2011 I had the privilege and honor to perform with GRAMMY AWARD and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Wayne Shorter, as well as GRAMMY AWARD winners, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington and George Garzone at the Global Jazz Summit For Humanity and Peace event. I have over 40 years of teaching experience, both privately, (one on one) and in classroom settings, both at the public school and college level. I also am available to teach in the homes of students OR in my teaching studio in Williamstown NJ. I like to think of myself as a teacher that suits the student's needs. And since every one has a different way of playing an instrument, I will build a specific "curriculum" for each student. I am not a strict sort of teacher, I like to talk about what we are learning, show musical examples, play examples and generally just have a good flow in class. My teaching experience began after I graduated from college 5 years ago. I discovered a talented young drummer while working at a music store, cultivating and channeling his talent. I like to take the time and learn from my students what inspired them to want to learn drums, and what they wish to learn from the lessons. This information helps me to develop a unique lesson plan for each student.I have had experience working with both children and adults at all levels, and I highly encourage my students to enter any competitions, bands, or recital opportunities that are availbable to them, especially NYSSMA. I use all types of books including Syncopation, Stick Control, New Breed, Advanced Funk Studies. Also I like to use other media where possible to teach different styles. Once the beginning student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce more musical applications related to real music. Preferably music the student is interested to learn to play. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
