I am a musician and educator who is passionate about creating and playing music with others. In 2011 I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Performance Diploma. I have experience teaching in schools througough New York City. I am currently looking to expand my private studio. Besides teaching I'm an active performer. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who would love to work with students and share the beautiful art that is music. I've been studying and playing drumset for 7 years and I am a rising sophomore at Belmont University. There, I am studying commercial percussion with an emphasis in performance and will get my degree in Bachelor of Arts in 2025. My teaching style is based around the phrase of I want to teach you how to fish, not just have you pay for fish. I don't want to be your fishmonger. I want to give you the tools & fulfill my role to prepare you to be the best drummer you can be. My beliefs a student comes with ideas and goals in regards to their respective instrument or task, and a teacher supposed to help them express those ideas or help them accomplish what they want to do yet also refine technique and their approach to the instrument. Mike comes from a varied and vast array of musical experiences. He has a bachelor's of music in jazz studies from UNC Wilmington and a Masters of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Maryland. A highly trained performer on classical and modern piano as well as traditional and contemporary drum set and percussion give Mike an edge in his teaching abilities. Mike has been playing drums and percussion for over 25 years, piano for around 15, and has been studying voice for almost a decade. Read More

My approach for newer students is to try to encourage their interest as well as to develop a good practice habit. I do this by having the students pick out songs that interest them, and work towards, taking it step by step through the rudiments to get there, and then side by side working on an approach of learning songs and practicing rudiments to be utilized in their playing.
