My teaching style is fun and engaging! In a typical lesson, I chat with a student for 1-2 minutes, go into warm-ups, drone work, technique, etudes, concert pieces, and sight-reading. Goals are set with all parties involved (student, parent/guardian, teacher, music director). I love to inspire my student through many various avenues while giving them additional musical opportunities where they can perform or learn new skills. This is my motto surrounding music: Music is the social act of communication among people, a gesture of friendship, the strongest there is." Malcolm Arnold Read More

Hello! I'm a classically trained musician who's seen all the ups and downs that come with learning a new instrument, mastering it, and keeping it around just for fun. Having been both an adult and childhood learner, I focus on understanding my students' goals and giving them the tools they need to achieve them. Eventually, I want my students to have the confidence to practice on their own and develop their own musical ideas. Read More

I encourage loved ones to be a supportive and active part of the process as that encouragement can fuel a student's desire to grow. Read More

I work for the Newport News Public Schools as a substitute teacher. As a parent I homeschooled one of my children. Read More

My teaching style is very comprehensive. I believe that a good musician is a well-rounded musician, and an understanding of music theory and history is important to a thorough understanding of the music. I have been blessed with teachers who made these potentially confusing areas fun and engaging, and I enjoy finding ways to pass that on to my students. I also place a high degree of emphasis on listening, both to oneself and to other performers, recordings, and styles. Read More
