First I like to get a snap shot of the student's goals and sources of inspiration, once I figure that out I can tailor my instruction around their wants and needs. I see myself as an accountability partner with my students and so I help my students set goals for their progress, celebrate their successes, and evaluate the shortfalls. I am an enthusiastic and creative teacher who loves working with students to discover and acheive their full potential. I graduated from James Madison University with my Bachelor of Music in Music Education on the flute in 2014.I love music and finding ways to communicate with others and teach life lessons through music. I have increased my understanding of music by participating in the JMU Marching Band, taking extra classes such as: Irish Music Seminar, Orff/Kodaly classes, Jazz Pedagogy, and Flute Pedagogy, and performing in masterclasses by Rhonda Larson, Paula Robison, Robert Maribal, Shelly Binder, and George Pope. I have been teaching since I was in high school, maintaining a private studio and teaching lessons and sectionals in Cleveland schools. Having grown up in a large family, I love working with children and relate well to all ages. I'm goal-oriented and methodical, but I'm also passionate about what I do and I love nothing more than to impart that passion. My teaching experience dates back to high school when I taught lessons during my senior year. I had a very solid foundation in the basics of breathing which has served me well. I believe in emphasizing the basics and a regular practice schedule to get the most out of the flute.
