I'm a fun yet challenging instructor who likes to use my students' goals to shape their learning paths. Everyone's got different learning styles and we're all learning music for different reasons. With a background in music therapy, I embrace the fact that music can be precise and competitive, but it also has very functional uses. Whether you're taking lesson so you can win a competition, make an honor band, or you're just picking up a new hobby, I'm ready to work with you to achieve your flute-ing goals!
I started teaching flute lessons to my friends in high school form my parent's basement since 2009. Since then, I've gone on to college and maintained a studio throughout that time. As a teaching assistant, I also taught college courses at the University of Northern Iowa for music education students and undergraduate flute students. Now, I teach privately throughout El Paso, in group settings, and frequently travel the south-west region to teach masterclasses with the Fort Bliss Woodwind Quintet.
Beginning students will start with tone and basic theory studies from the Trevor Wye Series. we then go on to learning some easy standards. For more experienced students, you'll choose an etude book, study tone from Moyse's "De La Sonorite", and really hone your scales and arpeggios from Taffanel and Gaubert's 24 Daily Studies. From there, each student will have individualized rep based on their needs. Students should have an idea of their end product, whether it's being able to play the all-state audition music by a certain ate, give a recital for family, or audition for a local orchestra. If you have trouble coming up with a specific goal, don't worry! We will work together to find something you'll like.
If you're learning music one thing I already know about you is that you're creative! As creative and free-thinking artists, I expect my students to explore the flute world and come to me with ideas. Even if you don't know exactly which piece you want to play, we can work together to find something that lets you express your style. All fundamental work is geared toward developing your unique sound and that takes work and consistency. What you put into your studies is what you get out of it so I really want you to get the most!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
