My teaching style is very much praxial and based off of skill reinforcement. For any instrument, I will incorporate the Kodaly method (solfege) of musicianship into the curriculum. For me, my goal is to teach the student how to learn for themselves. I focus on practice techniques, assessment of tone, sound, rhythms, pitches, etc. Rather than spoon feed all of the answers to the students, I wish to encourage each musician to develop their own critical mind towards the art that they create. My students receive (at no charge) sheet music via a cloud storage folder that represents every style and genre, both those that they are already familiar with and many that they are introduced to for the first time. This list is just a sample of the styles I use in my lessons: classical, all types of jazz, pop, rock, movie music, Klezmer, Celtic, and many other styles of world music; music from video games, anime, and even heavy metal (not kidding). For students that are beginners in music, I use the Essential Elements and Rubank methods to teach them how to read music as well as their instrument. For more advanced students, I place more of an emphasis on the fundamentals of the instrument specifically developing a warm, beautiful sound and establishing a vast technical facility. I teach all styles of music. I begin teaching from piano books published by Alfred. I also have the student learn their scales as well as give a weekly written music theory assignment. I incorporate styles and songs the student enjoys listening to or playing as well. I like to teach classical music.
