My teaching experience dates back to high school. I was a student leader in the marching band, serving as the woodwind captain for the marching band and the senior student conductor for the concert bands. With these positions, I was able to tutor peers and work on expanding my knowledge of teaching music. Once I graduated, I continued to be employed as the clarinet technician for the marching band at my high school for the next 4 years. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my time as an undergraduate. For the Clarinet, I typically use The Hendrickson Method book series with supplemental books on the side to enhance their various levels. I also encourage the students to bring music from their band class and/or other solos they may be working on for festivals, competitions, or auditions. Read More

In all these cases, the student has shown their unique approach to music, and I feel it is important to acknowledge these accomplishments before offering suggestions to improve. Read More

My teaching method begins with fundamentals. First, I teach about the piano itself. Second, I teach the notes. Third, I teach tones and steps. Fourth, I teach about major and minor scales. After I lay that foundation for the student I continue with theory and note identification. The student is ready to take off from there. I usually at this point let them select a song to play as well as I assign music. Read More
