I love teaching the trombone! I think more kids should check it out, and adults should continue playing throughout their lives even if it isn't a profession. I am a graduate from the Lamont School of Music in DU, and received my bachelor's at Cal State Northridge, both degrees in performance. I've played in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in DC. I am classically trained but also love to play jazz music. Read More

Shuyi has been teaching piano at the Crowden School since 2018. For the last 20 years, my teaching has focusing on two parts: highly advanced students from music schools, and amatuear students age from 4-76. I have worked in many music schools teaching piano major and minor students preparing for professional performance careers. Including broad selections for repertoire, constant developing of finger strength and technique, preparing for competitions, auditions, and performances. I've taught in these music schools including 2 elementary, 3 middle, 4 high schools, and 2 music departments of universities. Read More

I always say that rhythm is more important than the notes. Play the right rhythm and the notes will come instead of playing every right note while sacrificing rhythm. I encourage students to make their mistakes loud, proud, and in rhythm so everyone has a better idea of what needs to be worked on most. I also emphasize isolating parts to practice and working backwards. Example: play the last two bars of the song until comfortable with it, now play the last 4 bars, last 6, last 8...etc., whole song. I have been teaching since High School, but it wasn't until my first year of college that I started teaching music. After 6+ years of teaching in my home studios in both Austin and San Antonio, I enjoy a variety of students learning violin, viola, cello, piano, guitar, and even certain music software. My greatest lesson in teaching is that no two students are alike; one student may be more traditional and focused and have no problem learning to read music, for example, while another student may have little to no attention span, making it impossible to learn consistently. I began teaching in high school. Immediately after college, my studio grew to include 25 students. Included in the mix, some students were as young as 8 and several were adult beginners. Intermediate and advanced students also studied with me, as well as adults who were "re-beginners." (The term refers to adults who took lessons in childhood and have picked up their instrument again years later.) During graduate school, my assistantship included teaching piano classes comprised of students majoring in voice or music education. Read More

My teaching style will be depending on the student's demands first. Then I will teach the skill I feel he needs to improve. Once lessons are going I will propose diference kind of material and bassed on the student's interest I will focus my lessons. The most import thing for me is having a happy and motived student. If a student is not feeling the instrument is because he is not having fun. Read More
