Hello! Tom here, lifelong musician and educator. I make music with drums (drum set, hand percussion), guitars (electric and acoustic), and electronic instruments (synthesizers, MIDI keyboards, DJ turntables). I begin with the fundamentals of music theory that you will need to begin playing your instrument, and then I like to get straight into learning songs as quickly as possible. The student may choose what songs to learn (recommended) or I can make suggestions. You will learn a range of skills including tuning, instrument care, song struture, chords, soloing, and MUCH MORE. My teaching style is engaging empathic and emphasis on repetition and finding strong points in students to keep them engaged while working on weaknesses. I encourage all students to work on memorizing repertoire, keeping correct posture, practicing a few times a week and performing for friends and family during the learning process. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! For me, it's about building or finding moments. Finding out what is going to motivate you to learn that song, practice that chord, and try to instill the desire to show it off for next time. Once I find out where the student is at, wether they are learning their first chords or songs, or they have been trying for a while or just getting back to their old habit of picking up the instrument, the goal is to set the mark where one will wait eagerly for the next lesson, to show off their new found skill.
