Hello! Tom here, lifelong musician and educator. I make music with drums (drum set, hand percussion), guitars (electric and acoustic), and electronic instruments (synthesizers, MIDI keyboards, DJ turntables). I began taking guitar lessons at the age of thirteen and continued for about two years before teaching myself the rest. My styes of playing range from folk-style fingerpicking (see video) to rock 'n roll, blues jazz, and Broadway. I began teaching private music lessons while in High School. For my younger students, i would start with the simple lullabies like ABC's and Row Your Boat to get them familiar with the instrument and getting them used to playing what they want to hear. Then we'd move on to Hal Leonard's fundamental books to develop reading skills. For the older students, i'd get an understanding of what their listening to and how they want to play and start to introduce them to essential principles to be the musician they are imagining themselves to be. Every student is different and it is very interesting to me to guide each one to fulfil their goals. I often use software that is helpful in teaching, like Transcribe, Band in a Box , and other software to write music, backing tracks, etc. Student motivation is the main goal and of course determines the style and content of my teaching . First of all, I love the Classical Guitar. I believe it to be one of the most (if not the most) expressive instruments in classical music.
