I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who love working with students and sharing my love love of music. I started playing classical piano since I was four. In 2009, I graduated from Tianjin Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Arts in Keyboards Performance. In 2017, I graduated from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies (Jazz Piano), and in 2019, I graduated from IU with a Master of Science degree in Music Education, along with Indiana K-12 General and Instrumental Music teaching certificate. Every student learns differently, so by finding out what inspires my student, I am able to create individiualized lesson plans that cater to my student's needs without losing focus on the fundamentals of music. Music is such a blessing and should be fun! Ample time is given to students to discover their own music and inherent rhythms while studying the vast pedigree of music that has come before us. I believe in teaching music that the student wants to learn, whether that's the latest pop song or basic music theory which can be applied to any style. For my piano students, I prefer Alfred's piano curriculum. For my guitar students, I use Hal Leanord books. For my voice students, we work on whatever songs they want to learn or have assigned to them for a performance. For flute, I like Rubank method, but am open to other preferred methods as well. Similar to what is written above I prefer an approach that is rooted in the fundamentals. It is my belief that learning these well can serve a student later on when the music starts to become more difficult. Most students I have that have learned in this way tend to not get overwhelmed and are able to transition to higher levels of playing more easily. I have experience teaching in a traditional school, private school, home school, community building, and private music studio lessons for over 20 years.
