Even though I am still in school I actually have a job as a music educator already! I teach at a private school and I absolutely love my job! I am a self taught instrumentalist but I also have taken lessons as well. I do not have a huge amount of private lesson teaching but I have experience group teaching and teaching a class. Having started piano relatively late, I was always taking account of what my experience and thoughts were as I progressed forward. I am familiar with and aware of the issues that bog down a lot of beginner students (of all ages) and try to solve these issues in unconventional and exciting ways. I don't believe that performing the same exercise over and over will get you to where you want to be -- music-making is something that happens over a very long period of time but there is always something you can do on the short term that will prove to be rewarding and musically stimulating. My teaching style really depends on the student! Some want to learn for fun, others are studying for exams or college. As a result its really important for me to tailor my lessons towards each student and what they would like to work on. For some that could mean working on vocal technique, others working on music and repertoire. I am an active saxophone performer that is eager to enter the field of teaching. My desire is to work with students that struggle with finding the right practice methods and teaching methods for them, as well as make learning a new instrument a fun and exciting experience. I also hope to be an inspiration for young women who want to pursue learning the saxophone. After two years of attending Frostburg University under their Classical Performance program, I transferred and graduated from Towson University in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz/Commercial Performance then enrolled in Howard’s University’s jazz performance masters program for a year.
